Support Healing the Black Body!

We are celebrating our five year anniversary!!!

Healing the Black Body is an offering to create, build, and practice healing and liberation in Black communities through performance art, Black Feminism, and movement. We envision a world with freedom at its center, where all Black people live free from oppression and have abundant practices of intergenertational healing.

We are currently raising funds to support our Kinetic Altar Residency and our Black Abundance Festival. Our Kinetic Altar Resdiency is for Black queer young people to self determine what they want to heal, and create interdisciplinary healing performances based on their experiences.

Black Abundance is a Black arts and healing festival set for August 2024. We are collectively celebrating the healing and liberation work our communities have already done! It features performances, artist talks, workshops and events for free! We envision a free Black healing and performance arts festival, in NYC. Start your Friday with R&B yoga, a pole dance workshop, and an "herbalism for the heart" workshop. Take joy in watching an afrobeats artist perform on Saturday, and dance at our day party on Sunday!

Your support goes towards:

  • Funds for our Mental Health Fund for young Black women with bipolar disorder!
  • Stipends for our Kinetic Altar Residents
  • Studio space for our Kinetic Altar Residency
  • Space for the final performance of our Kinetic Altar Residents
  • Food and snacks for our Kinetic Altar Residents
  • Stipends for workshop facilitators and panelists for Black Abundance!
  • Stipends for performance artists for Black Abundance!
  • Space for our Black Abundance Festival!
  • Food and snacks for our artists participating in our Black Abundance Festival!

Healing the Black Body was founded in 2019 by Nana Chinara. She founded the organization after presenting her solo performance, "to bare the rose ||| a visual memoir", detailing her journey to surviving her abusive relationship and her journey to healing from that and her mental health diagnoses. She then created a curriculum and workshop, which transformed into an entire Healing the Black Body organization. Join us in celebrating five years!
